Good afternoon, everyone!

About twenty of us gathered on Sunday nights over the last eight weeks to study and discuss the book, Simply Christian by N.T. Wright. I believe I can speak for everyone when I say it was time well spent. We had great discussion, learned about (and from) one another, and we even gained a few helpful insights from the book itself. Wright insists that the point of Christianity goes well beyond just “going to heaven when we die.” For sure, that’s part of the picture, and praise the Lord for that! But Wright insists the point of Christianity is partnering with God in finally bringing heaven and earth together. Nowhere do we see God’s desire to bring heaven and earth together in a “new creation” more clearly than in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He says, “When Jesus rose again God’s whole new creation emerged from the tomb, introducing a world full of new potential and possibility… We find ourselves lifted up, set on our feet, given new breath in our lungs, and commissioned to go and make new creation happen in the world.”

My prayer for Chandler Friends Church is that the events of Holy Week as we rehearse them together might do just that: lift us up, set us on our feet, give new breath to our lungs, and send us out into the world—empowered with the hope of the resurrection!—to get busy with the work God has given us.

Keep reading to find out more about what’s coming up this Holy Week. And may God bless you!
