Good afternoon, everyone!

St. Patrick (d. 460) is famous for more than wearing green. (Did he really wear green? Probably not, but I like to imagine it). As a young man, Patrick was abducted from his homeland of Britain and taken to Ireland as a slave. After escaping, Patrick willingly returned to Ireland many years later as a bishop of the church. Patrick remains one of the church’s grandest missionary success stories. Instead of heading to southern Ireland where earlier missionaries found success, Patrick headed north to unreached Celtic people. According to Irvin and Sunquist, “He did so out of a concern for the land of his former captivity and, according to his Confessions, explicitly in response to the imperative of Matthew 28:19.”

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus continues to call his followers “go and make disciples.” Due either to the luck of the Irish (or divine providence, more likely) we have the opportunity to hear about the church’s current missionary endeavors this Wednesday night at 6pm, and how we might join and support the effort. I sincerely hope you will take the time to come and hear about the most exciting thing happening in the Friends Church right now!

St. Patrick is famous for many reasons, and one of his longest lasting contributions to the church at large is his famous prayer for protection. The shorter version is below. May it bless you today! And keep reading to find out more about what’s coming up at Chandler Friends Church.

St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer

Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ in me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

Plan to join us this Wednesday, March 20th, at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall for a conversation with EFM directors, Matt Macy and Stan Leach. EFM has been busy! They’re well on their way toward a 5-year goal to launch 5 new mission fields. Don’t miss this opportunity to come and hear about the most exciting thing happening within the Friends Church right now. Due to Spring Break, there will be no Meals on the Run, J.A.M., or Youth Group that night.

Please consider donating prizes, eggs, and candy. You can sign up in the North Foyer. We need… Small toys, larger bags of candy (movie theater size) coloring books, play dough, and sonic gift cards. Dollar General and Five Below are great places to get good prizes. Questions? Contact Ashley Kuczinski (405-620-2663‬)
