Good morning, Chandler Friends:

Many of you know that we recently renovated an unused office into a small library named after Duane Hansen. By far the best feature of the library is… the books! Duane’s family gave us several boxes of books from his personal collection. I’ve stumbled across several gems, including a devotional book called Meditations of the Heart by Howard Thurman. In that book, Thurman speaks eloquently about the value of taking time each day for silence, or to use his phrase, “a lull in the rhythm of doing.” I like that phrase, and I agree with him. Without a daily lull in the rhythm of doing, life gets out-of-whack, we forget the most important aspects of our lives, and we begin to believe life is just a rat race. A lull in the rhythm of doing reminds us there’s so much more to life.

Do you have a “lull in the rhythm of doing?” What might that look like for you? Experiment this week with creating a space for communion with God in silence and stillness. The details don’t matter so much; you can read the Bible, go for a walk, stare at a wall, or whatever. The point is to create a space and consistently go there. Blessings on your week and your experiment. Let me know how it goes!

By the way, the Hansen Library has several other gems available for you to take and read. Just remember to sign it out and bring it back. Here are a few recommendations:

  1. Embracing the Love of God – James Bryan Smith
  2. The Hiding Place – Corrie Ten Boom
  3. The People Called Quakers – Elton Trueblood.

Lastly, click here to watch this week’s Sunday service. Have a great week!

Men’s Common Prayer

Men are invited to pray together on Wednesday mornings at 6:30am. We meet for an hour to pray and read the Bible. We begin with coffee in the church kitchen and then move to the Hansen Library. We are currently reading through the book of Ephesians. Hope to see you there! Questions? Contact Josiah.

  2. Text Message Reminders. These will go directly to your phone. To subscribe, text the message @cfcprayer to the number 81010.
